A bit of product placement on Brainpains: our colleague Robert just got a book out with OUP, co-authored with Torin Alter. (open the post to see the beautiful cover!)

I haven’t quite finished reading it, but it’s a very good intro to the mind-body problem– clear, clever, entertaining, and a  good survey of recent debates about consciousness. The dialogue format works rather nicely in portraying the complex dialectic of these issues and simply as a way to explain things. In this respect, it seems to me that Robert and Torin have achieved a rare feat here: the mix of accessibility and sophistication makes it a very useable textbook, of course, but also a good tool for showcasing contemporary analytic philosophy to a broader public.  Perfect for a teenage audience, but also a good idea as a present for grandma’s birthday! I can reveal, I think, that it’s the first installment of a series! Congrats to both!
